The Kwahu South Municipal is one of the twenty-six (26) Municipal Assemblies in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
Kwahu South Municipal is one of the thirty-three (33) districts in Eastern Region. It was established by Legislative Instrument 2419 of 2020. It is 152.9 km from Accra and 96.1 km from Koforidua. The Municipality covers a total land area of approximately 795.76kmē. It shares boundaries with Kwahu East and Kwahu Afram- Plains South to the North, Asante-Akim South to the West, the Kwahu West and Abuakwa North Municipalities to the South and Fanteakwa North District to the East. It lies between latitudes 6°35"N and 6° 45"N and longitude 0° 55"W and 0° 20"W
The Kwahu South Municipal Assembly successfully observed the National Sanitation Day exercise on Friday, 15th May 2026, at Kwahu Praso No. 2. The exercise formed part of the Assembly's continued commitment to the government's "Clean Up Ghana" agenda, aimed at fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and improving public health across the municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwahu South, Hon. Effah Osei Bonsu David, has officially handed over the site for the much-anticipated 24hr Economy Ultramodern Market to the contractor, marking a major milestone in the execution of the flagship project. The handover ceremony took place on Thursday, 14th May 2026, at the market premises in Mpraeso.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwahu South, Hon. Effah Osei Bonsu David and management staff on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 held a second sensitization forum with traders of the Mpraeso market to provide updates on the progress of the upcoming 24hr Economy Ultramodern Market, a flagship initiative of the current government aimed at transforming trading activities and boosting economic growth within the municipality. Nana Ampadu Daduam II Chief of Mpraeso and his entourage were present at the forum.
