PROFILE OF THE MUNICIPALITY

Kwahu South Municipality, located in Ghana's Eastern Region, was established in 2020. Its development priorities are agriculture and tourism, leveraging its mixed climate and natural assets.

The municipality has a population of 80,358 (2021), with a 1.9% growth rate. It features a wet semi-equatorial climate with double rainfall maxima, a semi-deciduous forest zone containing significant forest reserves, and varied topography including the Kwahu Scarp and the Afram and Pra rivers.

Agriculture employs over 44% of the population, with major crops including plantain, cassava, maize, and vegetables. The population is predominantly Kwahu (63.9%) and Christian (79.4%).

Infrastructure includes 69 public primary schools, 50 JHS, four second-cycle institutions, and a technical institute. Health services are delivered through a government hospital, five health centres, 23 CHPS compounds, and private facilities, with doctor and nurse ratios of 1:12,277 and 1:337 respectively.
