The Kwahu South Municipal Assembly has successfully completed the distribution of 8,118 birds to beneficiaries under the government's flagship Akuko Nkitinkitin poultry revitalisation programme, marking a major milestone in the municipality's agricultural transformation agenda.
The distribution exercise took place on Friday, 20th March 2026, at U-Mart Farms, Aduamoah-Kwahu, where 355 carefully selected households received their birds to begin their poultry farming journey.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Effah Osei Bonsu David, led the distribution exercise, overseeing the handover of birds to the eager beneficiaries who had gathered at U-Mart Farms.
Speaking at the event, the MCE expressed his satisfaction with the successful delivery of the programme's first phase in the municipality and commended the beneficiaries for their patience and preparedness.
"Today marks a significant moment in our municipality's agricultural history. What began with the delivery and inspection of these birds on 27th February has now culminated in this distribution to you, the hardworking men and women who will turn this initiative into a sustainable enterprise. The Akuko Nkitinkitin programme is not just about giving out birds, it is about creating jobs, empowering households, and ultimately reducing the millions of dollars we spend annually on importing chicken. I have every confidence that you will make Kwahu South proud."
The MCE was accompanied by the Municipal Director of Agriculture, the Municipal Cordinating Director of the Kwahu South Municipal Assembly, and other Assembly staff, all of whom ensured that the distribution process was smooth, transparent, and orderly.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Assembly for the support and pledged to properly manage the birds to achieve the intended outcomes. They were advised to maintain proper housing, feeding, and health management practices, with assurance of continuous technical support and monitoring from agricultural extension officers to maximise survival rates and productivity.
The Assembly acknowledged the contributions of key partners, including the Department of Agriculture for its technical guidance, U-Mart Farms for hosting the exercise, partner farmers supporting chick development, and extension officers for their dedication to the programme.
The Akuko Nkitinkitin Programme is a national initiative aimed at revitalising Ghana's poultry sector, promoting self-sufficiency in poultry production, and improving household incomes. The successful rollout in Kwahu South marks a critical step toward achieving these broader objectives.
The Kwahu South Municipal Assembly has reiterated its commitment to sustaining such interventions to drive agricultural growth and improve the socio-economic wellbeing of its residents.
