Eastern Regional Minister Commissions School Projects, Cuts Sod for 24hr Economy Market in Kwahu South

The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, was warmly welcomed into the Kwahu South Municipality by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Effah Osei Bonsu David, on Thursday, 4th June 2026, as she arrived to commission two classroom blocks and cut the sod for the construction of the much-anticipated 24hr Economy Market at Mpraeso.

The Regional Minister began with the commissioning of a 3-unit Kindergarten block with office, store, and a 4-unit water closet toilet facility for Koranteng M/A Primary School at Koranteng. She then proceeded to Kwahu Obo, where she commissioned a 1No. 6-unit classroom block with office, store, and ICT laboratory for St. Paul Anglican Primary School. The final stop was at Mpraeso, where the Regional Minister officially cut the sod for the construction of the 24hr Economy Market.

The commissioned school projects are expected to enhance educational infrastructure, promote quality education, and improve learning conditions for pupils within the municipality. The new facilities will help reduce pressure on existing educational infrastructure, provide a more conducive environment for teaching and learning, and contribute to improved literacy rates in the Kwahu South Municipality over the long term.

The 24hr Economy Market at Mpraeso marks a significant milestone in efforts to boost local trade and economic development. The modern, well-structured market facility is designed to support continuous trading activities, reduce congestion in existing trading spaces, improve sanitation conditions, and enhance overall economic productivity in the area.

In her address, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey explained that the project is aimed at providing traders with a safe, efficient, and organized environment to conduct business at all hours. She noted that the market will help reduce congestion in existing trading spaces, improve sanitation conditions, and enhance overall economic productivity in the area. She further emphasized that the initiative will create both direct and indirect employment opportunities, especially for the youth, during construction and after completion. She called on stakeholders to support the project to ensure its timely and successful execution.

Hon. Effah Osei Bonsu David expressed gratitude to the government for bringing such transformative projects to the municipality and assured that the Assembly would provide the necessary oversight to guarantee quality work and timely delivery. He reaffirmed the Assembly's commitment to ensuring that all projects are executed according to specification and completed within the agreed timeline.

When completed, the Mpraeso 24-hour Economy Market is expected to serve as a major commercial hub, strengthening local trade and contributing to sustainable economic growth in Kwahu South and beyond.

Chiefs, elders, and staff of both schools, as well as members of the Obo and Koranteng communities, and market traders, commended the Assembly for the initiatives and expressed their commitment to supporting efforts aimed at advancing development within their communities.
